In order to give your new puppy the best welcome possible, Daintree endorses and recommends the following items:

Infant Needs (Daintree recommends Tailblazers, Paws, Fairplay, Pet Planet, Rascals, Pawsitively Natural, Healthy Hounds, & Petsmart. We do not purchase anything from Petland or Pisces Pet Emporium as they are stores which sell puppies of unknown origin.)

  • Plastic or wire crate in the size recommended for Border Collie, Cocker or other spaniel (Daintree likes Petmate, Pet Gear and Pet Nation (port-a-crate)
  • washable blankets or crate pads
  • baby (human) nail clippers
  • potty pads, newspaper for early weeks if dog is left alone long periods of time
  • dog bed (removable cover is best so it can be washed regularly) (Daintree likes West Paw fleece liners, just wash and dry the entire bed)
  • martingale collar and 4 or 6 foot leash (flexi leashes are strongly discouraged for safety reasons)
  • water and food dishes (more than 1 food dish is a good idea) (Daintree recommends stainless steel- the most sanitary and when stacked, takes up the least amount of space in our kitchen)
  • bells to hang on the doorknob for potty training (craft store, camping store, or Poochiebells)
  • nametag with your dog's name, your cell phone number with area code (or best number to reach you) and address if you like
  • snuggle puppie, pre-scented with the littermates and mother
  • old towels for dirty feet
  • good quality chews (AVOID rawhide altogether in any form, tennis balls, cooked bones.) An occasional nylabone is ok. Look for bully sticks, beef tendons, lamb ears, pig ears (occasionally), cow hooves.
  • Toys!  Products made by Kong, JW Pet, Everlasting Treats, Busy Buddy, Knobbly Wobbly, Chompion, Greenies, Pet Stages,  Plush or latex toys with no small parts, plastic eyes, or inner robotics. Squeakers ok.

Optional infant items

  • baby gates
  • Exercise (X) pen
  • puppy carrier (kanga style) to take your new friend out into the world for socialization in a safe manner before he/she has had a chance for the immunse system to mature (4-5 mos.)

Down the road:

  • good quality dog shampoo (Daintree likes Earthbath)
  • nail clippers and styptic powder
  • slicker brush & metal comb
  • winter booties for really cold days (Tollers' pink-bottomed feet are more susceptible to cold than dogs with black foot pads)
  • good quality chews as indicated above
  • doggie jacket for temps below -15
  • good quality dog treats (avoid artificial coloring/flavour and anything that is made by large Brand-name companies such as Purina, Science Diet, Iams, Pedigree, Kirkland, etc.)
  • blinking lights/reflective vest for night time walks both on and off leash (will help drivers and other pedestrians to see your dog in the dark.)
